The Corte Madera Town Band commissioned this work to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Founded by Gwyn Lister in 1996, the band has become a part of the community. From the Fourth of July Parade to the Piccolo Pavilion, from Oktoberfest to Woofstock, the Town Band has been there providing the music.
As I thought about the band and their role in the musical life of Marin County, two words came to mind: community and inclusion. That's when this piece sprang to life. The band that started with a bongo drum, two snare drums, a dozen winds and brass, and two accordions became a place for musicians of all ages and abilities to come together. To celebrate that, the piece brings together the different parts of the band in different combinations and ensures every instrument has a moment where they're in the spotlight.
A Band for Everyone was premiered by the Corte Madera Town Band at its 30th anniversary concert on April 3, 2026, conducted by the composer.
